Rodez

Late on Thursday 10 June we arrived in Rodez after a three hour drive from St Remy-de-Provence which took us south first to Lunel on the outskirts of Montpellier to pick up a rental road bike, then north-east.
After navigating some crazily narrow streets with the campervan we arrived at a postcard-perfect campsite beside a bubbling brook, historic bridges and views of Le Cathedrale de Notre Dame (pictured). The lady at the campsite spoke no English, but I understood enough to know that we had a 20 minute walk up a hill

to the centre of town. What was probably lost in the translation was the fact that this was probably the steepest hill I've ever walked up and if you don't find the right place to stop, you quite literally start falling backwards. But the walk / climb was well worth it because the view from the top (also pictured) was stunning and you could see the campervan way below beside the river.
We made our way into the centre of town, checked out the cathedral and more importantly the reason we made the trek to Rodez in the first place - to see the start point for stage 13 of this year's Tour de France.
