The St Remy-de-Provence market

One of the main reasons we came to St Remy-de-Provence was for the Wednesday market which was truly spectactular. It kicked off at 8am and basically took over the whole town with hundreds of clothing, art and craft and food stalls. The small town seem to double in size with thousands of tourists flocking in to grab a bargain. Sandra was in heaven and could have easily kept shopping til midnight so perhaps for our budget it was good that the market closed at 1pm.

For anyone who makes it to Provence, we truly recommend this market as probably the best we've ever seen. The aromas from the fresh produce were fantastic and the people very friendly. It was great to stop for a quick bite to eat on the steps of the church with the hundreds of stalls winding there way around the small laneways. When we went back a few hours later the laneways were near deserted and it looked like an entirely different town.
Now it's Thursday morning and we are about to say goodbye to St Remy and make our way further east toward Lunel near Montpellier where I will pick up a road bike to do some riding along part of a Tour de France route. We're planning to stay in Rodez tonight which is the start point of stage 13 of Le Tour next month.
